He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1998. He subsequently completed a residency in urology in 2003, as well as an Endourological Society accredited fellowship in laparoscopic surgery and endourology in 2004 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.

Dr. Nguyen sub-specializes in minimally invasive surgical procedures, including laparoscopic renal surgery (nephrectomy, partial nephrectomy, cryoablation/cryotherapy, pyeloplasty), laparoscopic prostatectomy and robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (a.k.a. da Vinci prostatectomy, robot prostatectomy), laser vaporization of the prostate, endoscopic kidney stone surgery, and no-scalpel vasectomy.
Dr. Nguyen is certified by the American Board of Urology. He is a member of the American Urological Association and the Endourological Society.
