After receiving his undergraduate degree in human biology from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan, Dr. Dennison went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine degree in Rockford, Illinois, from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, after which he underwent additional specialty training through a year-long surgical and clinical fellowship in adult reconstructive surgery at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute in Tampa, Florida.
