Her fellowship training took place in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she closely collaborated with LSU and Southern University student athletes. Dr. Sonnanstine has lectured on sports medicine topics including proper physical exam techniques, acute sports injuries and the use of biologics in sports medicine. She has been involved in concussion and sports nutrition research and is a credentialed ImPACT consultant for concussion treatment.
Dr. Sonnanstine has been an active member of several professional medical organizations including the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the American College of Sports Medicine. She also serves as gratis faculty for the Tulane University School of Medicine.
For her patients, Dr. Sonnanstine believes in an individualized, comprehensive approach to medical management. She enjoys developing relationships with her patients that allow her to craft a unique nonoperative treatment plan to get her patients back to their active lifestyles. She takes into account her patients’ goals and works with them to achieve success.
In her spare time Dr. Sonnanstine enjoys traveling, hiking, golf, yoga and running. She has completed multiple marathons, a triathlon, scuba diving certification, as well as a yoga teacher training program. She also enjoys watching sports as a spectator and cooking at home with her husband.

Professional and easy to talk to. I never have to wait. I'm treated and on my way in less that 30 minutes.
She took her time to talk to me and she listened we came up with a strategy together, to help with my issues. I did not feel any pressure to hurry up so she could get to the next patient. some drs try to get you in and out. And the staff was pleasant even the young lady in training.
