Dr. Sydney Smith was born and raised in Honolulu. He graduated from Kamehameha Schools in 1981 and received his undergraduate degree from Pomona College before returning home to attend the University of Hawai’i John A. Burns School of Medicine.
Dr. Smith completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Hawai’i, followed by a year of subspecialty training in orthopedic sports medicine at the world-renowned Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles. Dr. Smith served as assistant team physician to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the California Angels, and several other professional teams. He now serves as Orthopedic Team Physician for the University of Hawai’i men’s basketball team and Kamehameha Schools athletics. Dr. Smith is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Hawai’i.
Dr. Smith treats a variety of orthopedic problems but specializes in the treatment of injuries of the shoulder, elbow, knee, and ankle using both traditional and arthroscopic techniques.
