Dr. Irakam is a wonderful doctor, listens carefully to what we have to say, provides detailed diagnostic results. Consults with us and provides options and state his expert opinion. Very easy to speak to and genuinely take interest in patient’s health. Would always entertain additional questions and willing to answer any follow-up questions even over phone.

Dr. Surya P. Irakam, M.D., is a highly accomplished physician, board-certified in both Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine, with a distinguished career in clinical practice and leadership. He is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
He attended medical school at Sir Venkateswara Medical College in India. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Interfaith Medical Center in New York, and his fellowship in Gastroenterology at Brooklyn Hospital Center, also in New York. Dr. Irakam also received specialized training in advanced, state-of-the-art biliary and pancreatic endoscopy at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. Throughout his residency and fellowship, he authored many abstracts and publications and received awards for academic excellence.
Dr. Irakam has expertise in a wide range of advanced procedures, including Endoscopic Ultrasound with fine needle aspiration, Colonic stenting, Esophageal stenting, Drainage of Pancreatic pseudocysts, Transesophageal biopsies of lung lesions, argon plasma coagulation, infrared photocoagulation, and various others.
He has held significant leadership roles at Robert Wood Johnson @ Somerset, serving two terms as Chief of Gastroenterology and recently being appointed Chief of Medicine. He also serves on the cancer committee at the hospital and is the President of Gastromed Healthcare, PA.
