Sonny Caplash, M.D., is a certified Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a fellowship trained surgical retina specialist.
Dr. Caplash graduated from the highly selective Special Program in Medicine at the University of Connecticut, an 8-year BS/MD program. He graduated summa cum Laude and as an Honors scholar from his undergraduate studies. As a medical student, Dr. Caplash completed a yearlong fellowship at the National Institutes of Health conducting clinical uveitis research. He was inducted as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society. He additionally received an award for Excellence in Ophthalmology.
Dr. Caplash then matriculated to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center for his Ophthalmology Residency. He then went on to complete his vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the prestigious Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. His fellowship also included taking care of complex patients at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. As a fellow, Dr. Caplash was a part of cutting-edge gene therapy surgeries and has published numerous journal articles.
Dr. Caplash was born and raised in Connecticut. He is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists and the American Uveitis Society. Outside of work, his interests include traveling, tennis, and spending time with his wife and son.
