Dr. Shelby Smith, M.D., is a Delaware native who grew up in Middletown, attended Middletown High School, and graduated from the University of Delaware. She went on to complete her orthopaedic residency and upper extremity fellowship in Chicago and Indianapolis before returning home to Delaware, where she is excited to care for patients in the community in which she grew up.
Dr. Smith specializes in comprehensive care of the shoulder, elbow, forearm, wrist, and hand. She treats a wide range of conditions, including fractures, arthritis, sports and work-related injuries, as well as tendon, ligament, and nerve disorders.
She is committed to providing thoughtful, individualized care and helping patients understand their diagnosis and treatment options. Her goal is to reduce pain, restore function, and help patients return to the activities that matter most to them through both nonoperative and surgical treatment.

She was very thorough in her examination of my hand and my arm she was very polite she actually seemed like she cared when I went to the VA they didn't seem like they cared at all that doctor sucked

Good attention
Very professional. Took adequate time with me explaining all my options for my broken wrist. Checked in on my procedure for my wrist brace and asked if I had any additional questions, which I really appreciated because it seems after the doctor leaves the room I always remember a question or two I forgot to ask.

Dr. Smith is very attentive and personable. She took the time to listen to me and then did a thorough exam. She explained everything very well and answered all my questions.
I found Dr. Smith to be very caring and gentle while imparting the necessary info and next steps.
