Shawn Palmer, D.O.

Dr. Palmer is who I would recommend to anyone who I know who needs a hip replacement. I had seen another surgeon for my needed total hip replacement who is actually 10 minutes away from my house. However I choose to drive nearly an hour to go see Dr. Palmer. He looked at the X-rays taken and because of my condition, femoral head collapse, he told me that he would fit me in his surgery schedule instead of putting me in the schedule which was around 6 weeks. Dr. Palmer made me feel very at ease. He exuded confidence but not arrogant one bit, as many doctors. I chose Dr. Palmer and elected to travel approx one hour each way, so that should tell you all you need to know

Answered all my questions. I wasn’t rushed. Research was cited. No pressure for surgical remediation. My only recommendation would be for the facility to put up some art work in the exam rooms to add calm, interest, and distractions for patients as they wait or have office procedures.

Dr Palmer arrived on time and explained my x-rays. He made suggestions that will be very doable. He seems knowledgeable and professional. I would recommend him.

Excellent doctor, who answered all of our questions and as a result, we scheduled our surgery that day. Dr. Palmer is both direct, skilled ? experienced, capable, thorough and reassuring..we had been to three previous doctors and Dr. Palmer, seemed most capable .

Dr Palmer is always thorough, straight forward, conservative opting for therapy, medication or other forms of care rather than pushing surgery unless absolutely needed. He definitely has his patient’s best interest at the forefront.

Dr. Palmer reviewed the x-rays which were just taken minutes before and gave me several things to do to minimize my knee pain. Very efficient and informative.

I visited Dr Palmer to follow up on my Left Hip Replacement done 3 years ago. Since having my hip replaced by Dr Palmer I have done 4 trips hiking in the mountains doing 100 mile weeks, I routinely do 50 mile bike rides, I am actively running and enjoy my 10 mile runs every Sunday. On X-ray today I was told my hip looks as good as the day he put it in. If you are an athlete in need of a hip replacement hoping to resume your activities Dr Palmer is the surgeon for you.

Didn’t feel important to the doctor. I think he only cares when you need surgery. I hear he’s good at that. But if it’s something minor (to him) I feel he thinks it’s a waste of his time. All the other people at Orthoillinois are great.

Dr.Palmer did my right knee replacement in 2019. I went in today for a cortisone shot in my left knee it went great. Down the line here he will 100% be the doc to replace my left knee.

Dr. Palmer did an excellent total hip replacement on me. Super recovery. I didn't need to take any narcotic post op. Small scar top of leg. I would and do reccomend him highly.

Surgical skills for anterior hip replacement are miraculous. Was walking up and down stairs, normally and without assistance of cane, within a week.

Dr Palmer did a fantastic and maticulous job on my knee replacement. He used the most minimally invasive, modern techniques and latest material with no screws or bulky hardware. His expertise in suturing for a minimal scar was also impeccable. He explained the entire procedure completely and addressed all my concerns Recovery, although not pleasant, was short with only periods of discomfort. I was walking slow with minimal pain immediately and more normal but, cautiously with no pain with a diminished range of motion in 5 days. The second week I was on my way to recovery and further therapy. I'm so happy I met and chose Dr Palmer. His staff was also very helpful at every turn.

Amazing that Dr. Palmer was able to diagnose me within seconds. He reaffirmed what I had somewhat thought was my condition. We all need an expert in the field to really address the issue. I will now move to the second step of more verification through MRI results since x-rays do not show soft tissue - which, in my case, appears to be the major problem. Dr.Palmer was polite and cheerful -- which is definitely needed when we're in pain. He did not keep me waiting. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.

Will not see Dr. Again. He did my knee replacement. I tried to reach him afterwards, but his office said he was no longer there. Asked where his office was. They said, they didn't know. I told Dr. Palmer all this. He burst out laughing for a while. Very unprofessional. He said, she was joking, not funny. Asked him about swelling and pain in knee he replaced. He laughed still and guessed at the diagnosis. My primary Dr. not only told me where to find Dr Palmer, but diagnosed it for me.

Never having a cortisone shot before, I was a little anxious. After the procedure to freeze my knee, I was told that was the whole procedure. I really was amazed that was all there was to making my ability to exercise and walk so much better.! I did not expect this quality of a doctor at Sherman and I was employed there myself for 20 y Dr Palmer is very professional and I am so glad my friends employed at Sherman recommended him to me. I will be recommending him to anyone in The future.

I feel he is outstanding

Dr. Palmer performed a full hip replacement a year ago. It was outpatient. I walked out of the surgery center with just a walker, and was walking without a cane a week later. Hip feels great!! Other hip started having pain, so I returned. He explained the issue, and said replacement was not necessary for this particular issue. He's always very pleasant and answers any questions I may have. Highly recommend Dr. Palmer.
