While at UNC, Dr. Hocker was Captain of the 1993 Tar Heel Football Team and in 1994, he played for the NFL’s San Diego Chargers. He has helped to develop one of the current operating computer navigation systems used for total knee replacement surgery.
Dr. Hocker’s particular interests are in total joint replacement of the shoulder, knee and hip, less-invasive knee, hip and shoulder surgery, partial knee replacement, arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder, computer-assisted knee replacement, gender specific knee replacement and patient specific customized knee replacement and sports medicine.
He is a member of The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. Dr. Hocker is the president of the North Carolina Orthopedic Association.
Dr. Hocker enjoys travel, SCUBA, skiing, fishing and kayaking. He and his wife Coo enjoy raising and spending time with their two sons and daughter.

Dr Hocker is an excellent doctor and caring person. He replaced my right hip in 2017 and I have not had a minutes problem out of it and he did my wife's knee last year and did an excellent job. I would not trust anyone other than him and I'm grateful he took the time to help me and my wife.
