Dr. Shah Ahmad, M.D.,MPH, is a neurosurgeon, dual-trained in Orthopedic and Neurosurgical spinal surgery, and is a member of the Indiana Spine Group. His expertise is in the management of degenerative diseases of cervical and lumbar spine through minimally-invasive techniques, as well as deformity surgery and spinal cord tumors.
Dr. Ahmad attended Cornell University, obtaining degrees in neuroscience and business. He then attended the University of Arizona for his MD degree as well as his Masters of Public Health. From there he went on to complete a seven-year Neurosurgery residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, one of the top training programs for complex and minimally-invasive spine surgery. He then completed a sub-specialized fellowship in Orthopedic Spine Surgery under Dr. Rick Sasso at the Indiana Spine Group.
Dr. Ahmad's research interests are peri-operative pain management and clinical outcomes for patients undergoing different types of open and minimally-invasive spine procedures. He has published over 25 articles in some of the most impactful international journals in spine and cranial surgery, as well as authored textbook chapters in a number of neurology and neurosurgery textbooks, such Youmans Neurological Surgery. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery.

Dr. Ahmad is an outstanding physician. He explained my condition in layman’s terms and answered all the questions I had before leaving the examining room. He is a knowledgeable and caring person dedicated to his patients’ good health.
He and his staff are seriously the best. He is genuinely caring and so good at what he does.
I love the fact that he was pretty much on time. He spoke English. He described everything pretty much so I could understand everything. I might not have liked what he had said as far as what I had to do because I’ve already had it done and I’m scared to death of having it done again, but needless to say, I believe he’s a really really good doctor. He also had taken care of my son when my son was in need and I thought it was gonna take forever for my son to get help. It didn’t it took three weeks I believe and everything was taken care of and done. You can’t ask for anything better than that.
He, and the nurse practitioner who met with me before him, both took the time for me to feel at ease with them having, & understanding, all of the pertinent information. Both were kind & compassionate. Dr. Ahmad was thorough, took the time to explain things well, & to answer questions with patience. He was forthcoming with information. He was clear & confident, without being pompous. I left the appointment feeling like he is highly competent & sees me as an human being, & authentically cares. Those things combined is unfortunately not an easy find, so I feel like I found a gem.
