Sean Fitzpatrick, MD has always loved math and science, which led him to study chemistry in college. While he enjoyed working in a lab after graduation, he realized he wanted more personal connection with those around him and knew that healthcare would be a great fit. Around the same time, he sustained an ankle injury that would eventually require surgery. As a fitness enthusiast, this injury made him acutely aware of mobility's importance. That's when he knew he would dedicate himself to a career in orthopedics, helping his patients regain their stride.
Now, as a specialist in sports medicine, he enjoys helping athletes, weekend warriors, and active individuals get back to the activities they love, whether that's competitive sports, recreational activities, or something as simple as being able to walk around the neighborhood without pain. During his career, he has been a team physician and cared for many athletes, including the Pittsburgh Pirates, Ohio State University, Olympic athletes, and many others. Since he knows first-hand the agony of having his mobility taken away, he takes great pride in helping athletes and patients return to doing the activities they love.
Dr. Fitzpatrick takes an individualized approach to each patient and problem, working with his patients to understand their goals and help them return to their highest level of function. He prefers a non-operative approach when possible but does realize that sometimes surgery is the best option. His advice to patients on maintaining healthy joints and bones is simple: a nutritious diet, being physically active and maintaining healthy body weight.
Dr. Fitzpatrick and his wife are happy to raise their growing family in Reno. He discovered Northern Nevada while attending the University of California, Berkeley, when he and his friends would take weekend trips to the Biggest Little City to play. In addition to 300 days of sun and abundant outdoor activities, Dr. Fitzpatrick appreciates how friendly the community is. While he enjoys many opportunities to get outside, his favorite activities include mountain biking and snowboarding. The Fitzpatrick family also enjoys hiking, bike rides, and trips to the beach.
As much as he appreciates the outdoors, Dr. Fitzpatrick is equally passionate about giving back. During medical school, he traveled to Honduras with the Global Medical Brigade, where they provided basic medical care for several thousand people. He helped the community build small homes, bathrooms, and community kitchens. The trip reinforced his need to give back.
Dr. Fitzpatrick and Jessica are our favorite doctor and assistant of all the physicians we see. They’re very easy to talk to, plus very knowledgeable and professional. He’s always ready to answer your questions regarding your concerns. They both have a great sense of humor and are always happy to see you and great you with a smile and hand shake. Good people!!
Always good
Direct, friendly and to the point. Also made sure my next appointments were through his recommendations and scheduled immediately!
Thank you for taking the time to check my knee and let me know what’s going on and needs to be done to address this
The best and very caring Doctor I have had in many, many years . I have had many as well and I believe Swift is lucky to have him on their team and I am as well to have him as my Doctor.
Best Dr Ever I've been with him before and he fixed my other shoulder and was perfect
He's awesome. Willing to listen and explain things.
Takes time to answer questions, thorough and explains his diagnosis and prognosis well. Builds confidence easily. Friendly and has a good sense of humor!
Twice I waited over an hour to see the Dr. Second time I left after an hour and a half of waiting and not seeing him. They tell you to be there 15 mins early, and if you're late they'll reschedule you. I took an entire day off work for a 20 min follow up appointment that never happened. Thanks so much!
I felt like he was trying to cover up for Dr Shields mistakes. So I will be seeing another doctor who’s not affiliated with swift.
