This was possibly the worst encounter I have ever had with a doctor. He told me that I have pre-macular degeneration and announced that I wouldn't be able to read in five to ten years. When I protested that I am a writer and read a great deal, he said flippantly that I had ten years before I would have to worry about it, handed me some vitamin samples, and left the room. He also said that I didn't need to come back for two or three years. In research that I subsequently did, I learned not only that frequent.monitoring is critical but that there are treatments for the condition. If not for Google and the existence of other doctors, Dr. Smetana could have cost me my vision.

Scott and his wife Penny, who is a local Anesthesiologist, have loved calling Colorado Springs home since 2004. They have two very active and adventurous children.
