He graduated from medical school at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, having many opportunities to train in the northwest region, including his native Idaho. He completed his intern year at Sacred Heart hospital in Spokane, Washington. His training in ophthalmology was completed at the University of Missouri in Kansas City where he participated in clinical research. Dr. Butikofer is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
