Dr. Qian earned a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences with a minor in mathematics at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA, and her medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT.
She completed her anesthesiology residency at New York Presbyterian-Columbia Medical Center in New York, NY and a pain medicine fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA.
With the field of pain medicine ever changing, Dr. Qian is excited about minimally invasive procedures such as spinal cord stimulation and peripheral nerve stimulation. These procedures “have shown promising results in providing targeted pain relief.” She is also enthusiastic about regenerative medicine therapies including platelet rich plasma and stem cells with the aim of promoting tissue healing and regeneration.
Dr. Qian goes for an individualized approach to medication management as part of putting together a unique and specific patient treatment plan to address needs. “Medication choices should be based on scientific evidence, clinical guidelines and best practices and should also be monitored and adjusted based on the patient’s responses,” she said.
She believes patient-centered care is an important concept that requires ongoing engagement and commitment from both doctors and patients. “By emphasizing collaborative doctor-patient interactions, shared decision-making and good continuity and coordination, patient-centered care can optimize the patients’ experience, improve health outcomes and enhance their overall well-being.”
The most fulfilling part of Dr. Qian’s job is helping patients find relief from their chronic pain. “I am driven to make a positive impact on my patients’ quality of life — witnessing people’s improvement over time is incredibly rewarding,” she said.
Away from the office, Dr. Qian can be found outside running and hiking in her spare time.
