Worst bedside manner! Spoke w/me for 10 mins tops Told me the 9 stones I'd caught in a urine strainer was just " bladder gunk and completely normal " and to requestt a CT Scan if I think I had a stone(s) so it could be proven I didn't have any. Then I could be sent to another specialist. Was told my pituitary gland tumor doesn't contribute to stones ( which is not what I was told by other professionals ). On her way out she said I would receive no pain medication - I NEVER mentioned or requested it - and told to make a follow up for ONE yr later. No urine sample/24 - 48 hr. urine catch or stone analysis was ordered. No dietary advice on how to prevent stones. I was in tears by the end. The staff asked if I'd like to speak with a supervisor ( apprently the Dr. has a history of complaints ). While I was talking to personnel, the Dr. burst into the room and YELLED " we're not doing this," she then told me to leave and speak with personnel via phone. My child was upset by the Dr too

I'm Very pleased with my appointment, and being able to discuss my kidney issues clearly for the future treatment scheduling, etc.

Dr. Spettel is professional, respectful and friendly. I appreciate her pragmatic approach. She is a good listener and presents rational and clear potential positive and negative outcomes for various treatment options. She gives her professional, science-based opinion but defers to the patient’s choice regarding treatment options.

She is great and takes time to answer all my questions

My primary referred me to Dr. Spettel after my urologist at the Portland Clinic left to go to another facility. Today’s appointment was only the second time I saw Dr. Spettel and I was on time for my 1:00 appointment. Dr. Spettel came in the room at 1:35 and was off her stool leaving at 1:40. She spoke so quickly about my ultrasound results (not really sure she even reviewed them) and then was done and said see ya - she left the room. I did not even get to ask her my written down questions. I paid my copay of $45 two times now. The first meet and greet was March 12 and then she said to get another ultrasound done (which I did) and schedule an appointment in July which I had today, July 14. I was flabbergasted at the first appointment and how in a haste she was in but now that I had the second appointment today and now I am really puzzled why I would go back to her. I am prone to kidney stones and the questions I wanted to ask her were very pertinent to them. Didn’t happen.

My first visit with Dr. Spettel was a mixed experience. She appeared knowledgeable and seemed genuinely interested in helping me, but the appointment felt very rushed. She provided a great deal of information in a short amount of time, which made it difficult for me to process everything and ask questions. I hope the follow up visit we will be able to make a plan to treat my condition.
