Worst bedside manner! Spoke w/me for 10 mins tops Told me the 9 stones I'd caught in a urine strainer was just " bladder gunk and completely normal " and to requestt a CT Scan if I think I had a stone(s) so it could be proven I didn't have any. Then I could be sent to another specialist. Was told my pituitary gland tumor doesn't contribute to stones ( which is not what I was told by other professionals ). On her way out she said I would receive no pain medication - I NEVER mentioned or requested it - and told to make a follow up for ONE yr later. No urine sample/24 - 48 hr. urine catch or stone analysis was ordered. No dietary advice on how to prevent stones. I was in tears by the end. The staff asked if I'd like to speak with a supervisor ( apprently the Dr. has a history of complaints ). While I was talking to personnel, the Dr. burst into the room and YELLED " we're not doing this," she then told me to leave and speak with personnel via phone. My child was upset by the Dr too

Dr. Spettel is professional, respectful and friendly. I appreciate her pragmatic approach. She is a good listener and presents rational and clear potential positive and negative outcomes for various treatment options. She gives her professional, science-based opinion but defers to the patient’s choice regarding treatment options.

Dr. Sara Spettel, M.D. is a board-certified urologist who cares for a broad range of adult urological concerns. Her special interests include both female and male voiding dysfunction, kidney stones, urologic cancers and erectile dysfunction. She has been published nationally on several topics including urinary incontinence, videourodynamic testing, kidney stones, and markers for bladder cancer.
Originally from Oregon, Dr. Spettel attended Barnard College in New York for undergraduate studies and graduated from the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. She completed her urology residency at Albany Medical College in New York and joined Northwest Urology soon thereafter. She has a special interest in the history of medicine, and won the 2010 Earl Nation Urologic History Award from the American Urologic Association for her research.
She finds a patient-centered approach to medical care is ultimately most satisfying for everyone, as well as the most successful. “The correct diagnosis and best plan of care aren’t helpful unless the patient understands it,” she explains.
Dr. Spettel is excited to have returned home to Oregon to practice medicine. Outside of work, she tries to spend the majority of her time unwinding and having fun with her kids and family.
