Sara K. Jurek M.D.

Dr. Sara K. Jurek M.D., is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon fellowship trained in advanced shoulder surgery, arthroscopy and sports medicine. Dr. Jurek earned her medical degree at Oklahoma University School of Medicine, Oklahoma City, OK, and completed her residency at Medical College of Wisconsin, Dept. of Orthopedic Surgery, Milwaukee, WI. She then finished her fellowship in Advanced Shoulder & Elbow Open and Arthroscopic Surgery at The Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic, Los Angeles, CA., and in Sports Medicine at Santa Monica Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Group, Santa Monica, CA.

She served as a team physician for the LA Lakers, LA Galaxy and LA Sparks professional sports teams. With each and every patient interaction, she focuses on providing the highest quality of care while fostering an honest, informed relationship and dialogue. As a physician and orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jurek’s goal is to return her patients to their activities as safely and efficiently as possible.

Dr. Jurek’s ideal day consists of waking up really early, accomplishing meaningful tasks, and then finding the time for an afternoon nap. The nap rarely happens, but when it does, it is amazing. Outside of work, she loves spending time with her wife, their son, and their dogs. She really enjoys being physically active and particularly enjoys honing what she likes to call “the escape skills” of CrossFit; running fast, jumping high and often, and climbing ropes and bars. She also has some quirky hobbies that she contends make her better in the OR: mountain unicycling, slack-lining, and devising various art and craft projects. She dedicates time regularly to achieving what have become her perpetual New Year’s resolutions: learning Spanish and writing the next Man Booker Prize-winning novel (it’s going to happen this year!).
