Outstanding Dr! Informed me prior to surgery the approach he was going to take. After surgery, explained the steps needed in order to reach full range of motion. Cut and dry, this is what you have to do and this is what the PT will provide. I don't worry about a doctors beside manner as I have read from other people. I want to know if you fixed the problem and what do I need to do in order to speed the healing process along. Never sought him out to be a friend. I was looking for a competent Orthopedic surgeon! I found Dr. Swiggett.

He fixed my badly broken arm and now it’s better than brand new! I was lucky to find him. He’s very focused and really cares about best outcomes.

Dr. Swiggett is one of the best doctors you could hope to find if you have an orthopedic need. The entire staff at FOI are some of the best in the business.
My case, rotator cuff issue, was particularly difficult and Dr. Swiggett was right there all the way through it. In the end, I was able to return to normal activities and feel great. It was a long journey but he made the experience so much better.
You can't ask for a better group of doctors.

Dr. Samuel Swiggett, M.D., completed his undergraduate education at Boston College and received his medical degree from Florida International University (FIU) Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine in Miami, FL. He then completed his residency in general orthopedic surgery at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. During this time, he also completed a one-year research fellowship. Additionally, he completed a fellowship in Shoulder & Elbow surgery at the prestigious Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island under the direction of Drs. Andrew Green and E. Scott Paxton.
Dr. Samuel J. Swiggett is board-certified in Orthopaedic Surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and fellowship-trained in shoulder and elbow surgery.
Dr. Swiggett sees patients for orthopedic concerns such as foot/ankle/leg/hip fractures, hip and knee pain, back pain, hand/wrist and other upper extremity issues.
His fellowship focused on the management and operative techniques of shoulder and elbow injuries. The typical problems that he evaluates and treats includes rotator cuff tears and impingement, shoulder and elbow instability/dislocations, shoulder and elbow arthritis, shoulder fractures (humerus, glenoid, scapula, and clavicle), elbow fractures, malunion and nonunions of these fractures, tendon injuries of the shoulder and elbow, labral tears, throwing injuries and other sports injuries of the upper extremity.
Dr. Swiggett has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and presented his research at national and international orthopedic conferences.
A native of St. Petersburg, Dr. Swiggett joined the practice in September of 2024. In his spare time, Dr. Swiggett enjoys traveling, skiing, boating, and spending time with his wife and child. He is an avid supporter of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Lightning and Rays.
