Dr. Ryan Riggs, M.D., is a board-certified and fellowship-trained Sports Medicine Physician specializing in the treatment of various musculoskeletal and orthopaedic conditions and injuries of the upper extremities, hip, knee, foot and ankle, as well as the spine.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Florida and his medical degree from Florida State University.
Dr. Riggs completed his residency in Family Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina before pursuing a specialized Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, AL.
In addition to his previous experience as an Urgent Care Physician in Birmingham, Dr. Riggs served as the Team Physician at Homewood High School and assisted in coverage as a Fellow for Samford University Athletics and the Birmingham Barons baseball team.
Dr. Riggs’ clinical interests include the use of regenerative medicine, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and stem cell therapies, to manage orthopaedic injuries. His innovative approach to sports medicine allows his patients to focus on returning to their daily lives with minimal downtime while receiving the best care possible.

Office staff was terrific and timely. Dr. Riggs is smart, thoughtful and quickly identified my issue and a simple treatment plan.
He explained everything in a manner that is easily understood and did not make me feel rushed through the visit. Very good bedside manner and very skillful technique..
At almost 70 one of the best physicians I have ever had totally personable doesn’t rush you answers any concerns immediately. Always a pleasure and much appreciated.
I tripped over a pet gate in the garage. Went down hard. Messed my ankle and knee up to where I couldn’t bear weight on it the next morning. Dr Riggs office was the only one who would take me without a referral! They got me in the next morning. Brook was amazing in her professionalism as well as empathy. Two strong qualities in my book. Process at appointment was also amazing, kind caring staff. I take, X-rays and Dr Riggs all in less than an hour. I was impressed beyond belief! Dr Riggs is awesome and can’t say enough good things about this entire process! Please if you need help, go see these folks, they will put a smile on your face and a warmth in your heart! And peace of mind. I am relieved to know that I didn’t cause major damage and that’s worth more than I can relay here. If I could give ten stars I would!
He is extremely professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely cares about his patients and their overall well-being. What stood out to me most was how compassionate and family-oriented he is. He takes the time to listen, explains things clearly, and makes you feel like you are truly being heard and cared for—not just another patient. It is refreshing to have a doctor who combines excellent medical care with such a kind and caring bedside manner. I feel confident knowing that I am in good hands and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a doctor who truly puts his patients first.

Dr. Riggs is caring, compassionate and thoroughly explained what he felt needed to be done to diagnosis my shoulder concern to include an ultrasound and MRI. I finally found someone who can take my care to the next level for eventual resolution. Yay!
