Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, orthopaedic spinal surgeon Dr. Ryan Cassilly focuses his practice on providing surgical and non-surgical treatment for degenerative conditions and abnormalities of the cervical (neck), thoracic (mid-back), and lumbar spine (low back). Dr. Cassilly earned his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, graduating magna cum laude. During his time there, the National Institutes of Health bestowed two research grants upon him for the purpose of studying the use of robotics in surgery. Dr. Cassilly then attended Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, earning his medical degree.
After medical school, Dr. Cassilly began a five-year orthopaedic residency at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital, which is part of the Columbia University Medical Center. He was presented with the Harold M. Dick Award for Excellence in Orthopaedic Surgery, and he was also nominated as a New York-Presbyterian Hospital – Columbia Physician of the Year. Dr. Cassilly went on to complete a Fellowship in Spinal Surgery at New York University – Hospital for Joint Diseases. His primary focus was on degenerative spinal pathology, complex pediatric and adult spine deformity, disc arthroplasty, epidural injections, and minimally invasive spinal operations. Dr. Cassilly has also written textbook chapters on the physical examination of the spine and how to use osteobiologics (bone grafting aids) in spinal fusion surgery.
Garden State Orthopaedic Associates asked Dr. Cassilly to join the practice in 2016, where he continues to offer patient-focused, customized, and compassionate care. He is committed to helping individuals enjoy a better quality of life through both non-surgical and surgical approaches. Dr. Cassilly has privileges at The Valley Hospital, Holy Name Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. He is an active member of several esteemed medical organizations, and is a board-certified Orthopaedic Surgeon by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Cassilly lives in Bergen County with his wife and children.
