Dr. Ruel T. Garcia, M.D. graduated Magna Cum Laude in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine. He went on to receive his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine. Dr. Garcia stayed at UCSD to complete to residency in Internal Medicine. Soon after, he joined the staff of Southern California Permanente Medical Group, San Diego, for three years as a primary care physician and then as a hospitalist.
Dr. Garcia moved to the Bay Area in 1998 and completed his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. Since then, he has been in San Jose practicing general gastroenterology and hepatology with an interest in advanced endoscopic procedures. His primary interest is in biliary tract and pancreatic diseases and has expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP and EUS.
Dr. Garcia balances his life by spending the majority of his free time with his wife and 4 children. He has a passion for travel, history, and physics.
Dr. Garcia is extremely thorough with his assessment. His attention to detail and ability to dissect my symptoms is second to none. I appreciate his urgency in getting tests done. Typically other doctors beat around the bush and you feel like nothing ever gets done. I highly recommend Dr. Garcia!

I had a great experience at my recent appointment with Dr. Garcia. The staff was friendly, professional, and welcoming from the moment I arrived. The office was very clean and aesthetic. Dr. Garcia was attentive, listened carefully to my concerns, and took the time to explain everything clearly. I never felt rushed and felt genuinely cared for throughout the visit. Overall, I’m very happy with the quality of care I received and would definitely recommend Dr. Garcia to others! Very knowledgeable!

Doctor Garcia is super personable and knowledgeable. He talked through and explained everything thoroughly. He didn’t just quickly rush me out of the office either. I would definitely recommend him to others!
He is very respectful, patient and very understanding. Unfortunately, I was running late due to the traffic from freeway construction. I arrived technically 30mins late and the doctor still agreed to see me. I appreciate his understanding a great deal. Thank you Dr.Garcia!
