Robert Shanik, M.D., is a board-certified pediatrician, Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and one of the founders of Pediatric Affiliates. He earned his undergraduate degree in biology from Hofstra University and his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, followed by pediatric training at North Shore University Hospital/Cornell Medical Center. With nearly five decades of experience, Dr. Shanik has devoted his career to meeting the evolving healthcare needs of children and families in the community.

Dr. Shanik’s clinical interests span all aspects of general pediatrics. In addition to his clinical work, he has been recognized for his contributions to medicine through honors such as the Medical Society of New Jersey Physicians Recognition Award. He co-founded the practice with Dr. Ira Haimowitz with the goal of expanding access to high-quality pediatric care and building a practice rooted in continuity, compassion, and long-term relationships.
Originally from Long Island, Dr. Shanik has called Lakewood home since 1977. He has a large, multi-generational family that includes grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Outside of the office, he enjoys lifelong learning and staying current through reading medical journals. Reflecting on his career, Dr. Shanik often shares that “being a pediatrician and watching children grow is both gratifying and deeply rewarding.”
