As a primary care family medicine physician, Dr. Rita George, D.O., specializes in diagnosing and managing acute and chronic medical conditions as well as preventive medicine. She carefully explains and discusses treatment options and possible lifestyle interventions with her patients to guide them to wellness.
Dr. George enjoys connecting with people one-on-one and helping to educate them on their medical diagnoses. Recognizing that each patient is a unique individual, she works to reduce whatever barriers may prevent a person from getting the best care possible. One of her top rewards as a physician is seeing how an appropriate intervention or medication can have a positive impact on someone’s life.
Most of the adults in Dr. George’s family work in healthcare. Even as a child, she aspired to join in their conversations. Her decision to become a doctor was cemented when she took a college course in physiology, which she found fascinating. After graduating with a BS in biology from Villanova University, she earned her medical degree from Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, Tennessee. She completed her residency at Lonesome Pine Family Medicine in Big Stone Gap, Virginia.
In her free time, Dr. George likes to read, listen to podcasts, and go for walks in nature.
