Richard A. Weaver, DO

Dr. Richard A. Weaver, D.O., sees patients in National Spine & Pain Centers’ Greenville office, where he uses his 25 years of experience in medicine to address his patients’ acute and chronic pain. During his career as an anesthesiologist and pain specialist, Dr. Weaver has performed more than 30,000 procedures ranging from intradiscal procedures to decompress a herniated disc to spinal cord stimulation for the treatment of neuropathic pain.

“The field of pain management is ever-evolving,” Dr. Weaver said. “I keep up-to-date with new research and methodologies to determine if and how they may improve the care of my patients. But I am also committed to incorporating non-pharmacological options, such as ice, heat, stretching, nutritional medicine, exercise, smoking cessation and physical therapy, into the treatment plan. That way, we have an entire tool kit to rely on and not just one tool to ease pain symptoms.”

Prior to joining National Spine & Pain Centers, Dr. Weaver served on the anesthesiology staff of several large regional hospitals, and has been a private practice pain specialist in Connecticut. He also served as an assistant clinical professor for anesthesiology and pain management at the University of Arizona College of Medicine where he attended his fellowship. He is nationally recognized as an expert in the field of interventional pain management and has lectured extensively on topics related to spinal pain and pain management, including spinal cord stimulation, complex regional pain syndrome and disc decompression.

Dr. Weaver is board certified in pain medicine and anesthesiology. He earned his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, PA and completed his internship at the Osteopathic Medical Center of Philadelphia. He then performed his residency in anesthesiology at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA and his fellowship in anesthesiology and pain management at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, AZ.

“Pain is a very personal, emotional experience, which is why I know that patients need to feel heard when expressing their pain experience,” Dr. Weaver said. “To develop a treatment plan that is going to be effective, it is essential that the patient verbalize how pain impacts daily life, relationships, sleep and activities. Delivering pain management services offers an opportunity to engage and intervene in such a way as to significantly improve my patients’ comfort and offer compassionate care. I enjoy being part of that positive, pro-active approach.”

In his free time, Dr. Weaver is an avid cyclist and has a special interest in Nutritional Medicine.
