He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Utah in 1995 with a degree in Exercise Physiology. Continuing his education at the University of Utah, he earned his medical degree in 1999 and was a member of the Pediatric Honors Program. His residency training was also completed at Primary Children’s Hospital (University of Utah Affiliated Hospitals), where his professors and mentors honored him with The Pediatric Practice Award in 2002, an accolade given to only one resident annually.
With his background in exercise and sport science, Dr. Paxton maintains a strong interest in health and fitness. He actively combats the obesity epidemic and the related issue of inactivity by attending relevant lectures and conferences. He is committed to implementing evidence-based programs designed to help children and entire families achieve greater fitness and health.
Dr. Paxton is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is affiliated with the Utah Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Intermountain Pediatrics Society. Leading by example, he maintains an active lifestyle through various forms of exercise. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, fishing, backpacking, camping, movies, diverse music, watching and playing sports, and writing. His greatest joy comes from spending time with his wife and five sons, who are the most important people in his life. He draws significant satisfaction from leveraging his experience in medicine and family life to provide compassionate patient care.
