Dr. Richard Singleton, M.D. was born and raised here in Central Virginia, graduating summa cum laude from University of Richmond with a double major in both biology and chemistry. He then earned both his MD and PhD at Medical College of Virginia, where his research focused on the effects and treatment of traumatic brain injury. He completed his neurosurgical and Gamma Knife training at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, a Level 1 trauma center that is among the busiest neurosurgical facilities in the country.
Dr. Singleton has a diverse neurosurgical focus, treating most disorders of the brain, spine and nervous system. Areas of special interest include surgical and Gamma Knife treatment of brain tumors, spinal surgery ranging from minimally invasive outpatient surgeries to complex tumor surgery and fusions, as well as revision surgery for patients who have had previous spinal surgeries. He is happy to see patients for second opinions and enjoys working to find less invasive ways to treat spinal problems.
In 2011, Dr. Singleton returned home to Richmond and joined Neurosurgical Associates. He is honored to have been named a Top Doc in Neurosurgery and/or Spine Surgery by Richmond Magazine.
