I scheduled an appointment expecting a comprehensive evaluation, as my symptoms involve my hips, pelvis, and spine working together. At the visit, I was told the doctor could only address one body part (lumbar spine), which significantly limited the usefulness of the appointment. When I tried to explain that my issues feel interconnected, I did not feel heard. The discussion was directed toward systemic causes like Lyme disease or fibromyalgia, without addressing the mechanical or functional concerns I came in for. I was also told there is nothing in my imaging that would explain my difficulty sitting, despite ongoing symptoms, and the primary treatment offered was ablation. This experience was disappointing. Patients with complex, multi-area issues may want to clarify in advance whether the provider will evaluate the body as a whole or limited the visit to a single region. Overall, I left feeling unheard, and no offer to truly ‘fix’ beyond numbing pain.
