Dr. Rachel Mepani, M.D., comes from a long line of doctors and decided to follow in that family tradition. When it came time for her to choose her profession, she viewed medicine as the best way to help others. She chose her specialty because the diseases encompassed within gastroenterology and hepatology are fascinating to her.
“Both of these areas of study are the subject of much ongoing research and medical advancement,” she said.
The field also provides a nice balance between performing procedures and seeing patients in the office and the hospital.
She finds that the most rewarding part of her job is making patients happy by helping to alleviate their symptoms and easing their worries. If Dr. Mepani were not a doctor, she might have been an accountant, as she majored in accounting at Ohio State University (where she fulfilled pre-med requirements as an undergraduate).
Outside of her medical practice, Dr. Mepani volunteers at her children’s school. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, playing tennis, swimming, and traveling. She has been married for 13 years and has three children. She said that she enjoys watching her children grow, change, and develop their own personalities.
“I feel very lucky to have found such a great work-life balance,” Dr. Mepani said.
