Dr. R. John Ellis, Jr., a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, specializes in sports injuries, arthroscopic knee surgery, total knee replacement, and general orthopedics. A second-generation physician, Dr. Ellis joined Ellis & Badenhausen Orthopaedics in 1983, continuing the legacy of his father, Dr. Ellis, Sr., the practice’s founder.
Since joining, Dr. Ellis has served as a team physician for the University of Louisville and, since 2001, as the Head Team Orthopaedic Physician for the University of Louisville men's basketball team. In addition, he has contributed as a clinical instructor for the University of Louisville School of Medicine Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, mentoring future generations of orthopedic surgeons.
Dr. Ellis is a member of professional organizations such as the Greater Louisville Medical Society, the Kentucky Medical Association, and the Kentucky Orthopaedic Society. He earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Louisville, completed his surgical internship and residency at the University of Cincinnati, and further specialized in sports medicine with fellowship training at the University of Oklahoma.
