Phillip Smith, MD

Dr. Phillip Smith is an interventional cardiologist based in Baton Rouge, LA, with extensive experience in advanced structural cardiology and advanced cardiac imaging. He has established himself as a leading expert in the field, with a focus on providing the highest level of care to his patients.

Dr. Smith attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge where he received his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and graduated with honors. His doctorate in medicine was obtained at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he also completed his fellowships in cardiology and advanced interventional cardiology in structural heart disease.

In addition to his expertise in interventional cardiology, Dr. Smith is also highly skilled in advanced cardiac imaging, including transesophageal echocardiography, cardiac CT, and nuclear imaging. Dr. Smith performs minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including heart catheterization, percutaneous coronary intervention, coronary stent implantation, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR), the MitraClip procedure, patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure, atrial septal defect (ASD) closure, paravalvular leak (PVL) closure, percutaneous therapies for left atrial appendage closure (Watchman, Amulet), and transcatheter therapies for comprehensive management of veno-occlusive disease including pulmonary embolism.
