Dr. Phillip Ferrone earned his Bachelors of Science from Union College graduating magna cum laude and received his M.D. from Harvard Medical School graduating cum laude with special honors. He completed a medical/ surgical internship at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Massachusetts and his residency in Ophthalmology at Duke University Eye Center. He subsequently completed a fellowship in vitreoretinal disease and surgery at Associated Retinal Consultants in Royal Oak, MI. He was Chief Resident and on faculty at the Duke University Eye Center where he gained extensive experience in ocular trauma.
Dr. Ferrone is on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Retinal Specialists. He is also a member of the Retina Society, the Macula Society and American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is the former president of the Long Island Ophthalmology Society and is a member of the New York State Ophthalmology Society. He is a member of the Club Jules Gonin, an International, Swiss-based, retina honor society.
Dr. Ferrone has received an Honor Award and Senior Honor Awards from both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retinal Specialists. He serves as the Director of Clinical Research at Long Island and Queens VRC. He has been the Principal Investigator in numerous national trials investigating new drugs and treatments for retinal disease. He specializes in pediatric as well as complicated adult medical and surgical retinal diseases and regularly teaches courses at the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Retinal Specialists Meetings. In addition, at national and international meetings every year, he presents original scientific retinal research to help advance the treatment of retinal disease.

Very thorough and explained everything in an easy fashion. He answered all our questions and did not rush the appointment. He was also very friendly and had a lot of patience talking to our 95 year old dad. I would definitely would recommend him bc I liked him very much
he has a personable and professional way about him. Dr Ferrone is a phenomenal surgeon who explains everything in detail answers all questions in a way that you can understand the terminology. He comes highly recommended I I understand why.
