His surgical internship was at Columbia University, followed by an orthopedic surgery residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, where he served as chief resident. For conditions such as Carpal Tunnel, Cubital Tunnel Syndrome, Thumb Basal joint arthritis surgery, Tennis Elbow, and Rotator Cuff problems, he uses arthroscopic surgery or small incision techniques.

Dr. Lopez enjoys participating in endurance sports such as triathlons and marathons. He has run in both the Boston and the New York City Marathons and competed in several Triathlons. He enjoys spending time with his family traveling, biking, running, and swimming in his spare time.
