I’ve been a patient of Dr. Shriver’s for about three or four years now. At my last annual visit, the dreaded “progressive glasses” conversation came up. I’m in my mid-40s and had always assumed I wasn’t a candidate for LASIK, but the idea had been nagging at me for years. After some testing and another conversation, we set a date. I’m about a week post-surgery and honestly shocked by how easy the procedure was and how quickly my vision improved. Dr. Shriver and his surgical scheduler Catherine are AMAZING. I truly felt like I was their only patient—and still do—that’s how attentive they are. Dr. Shriver personally called me both before and after surgery to check in and make sure all my questions and concerns were answered (yes, even on the weekend). I spoke with Catherine so much I probably owe her a Christmas card. A few things to note: the procedure itself is very quick—about 15 minutes. Dr. Peter Shriver, D.O. received his medical degree in 1985 from the University of New England and became board certified in Ophthalmology in 1994. He is one of a select few eye surgeons who has received full fellowship training in surgery of the cornea, the external window of the eye, and refractive surgery, which corrects the eye’s ability to focus. During his fellowship at the University of California, California College of Medicine, Dr. Shriver was selected as the Beckman Laser Fellow at the world-renowned Beckman Laser Institute, recognized as one of the world’s premier centers of biomedical laser research.
Dr. Shriver took part in the original FDA trials for LASIK approval and has performed over 10,000 LASIK procedures. His LASIK treatments include many VIP’s – fellow eye doctors, surgeons, Hall of Fame athletes, Special Forces personnel, and news anchors. Dr. Shriver also performed LASIK surgery on members of his own family. Both Dr. Shriver and his wife have had LASIK. Since 1991, Dr. Shriver has been an invited national lecturer on the Excimer laser and laser vision correction.
