Dr. O’Callaghan’s hand, wrist, and elbow special interests include fracture care, arthritis, joint replacement, sports injuries, and pediatric trauma and deformity. He is trained in endoscopic carpal tunnel release, and is an instructor for other surgeons. He is passionate about the care of his patients, and states, “Our hands mold our most meaningful interactions with the world, and it is a privilege to help patients with hand and upper extremity ailments. When I am with a patient, I try to not just understand their condition but what it is holding them back from and their treatment goals. From there my job is to provide education and come together on a treatment plan. Whether it’s reassurance to having surgery, I am dedicated to providing top notch treatment to each and every patient”.
From the onset of a patient relationship, Dr. O’Callaghan believes in the importance of communication and engagement, so patients fully understand treatment options, both surgical and non-surgical.
Together with his wife and two young children, O’Callaghan moved to northern Michigan, settling in Petoskey just this year, where he will make Bay Street Orthopaedics & Spine his main practice location. In addition to Petoskey, Dr. O’Callaghan is accepting patient appointments at the Charlevoix, Gaylord, and Cheboygan locations.
“I enjoy various outdoor recreational activities that northern Michigan offers,” he shares. “Helping patients continue to do what they love is the real reward.” In his spare time, Dr. O’Callaghan enjoys being active and playing most all sports, especially soccer, tennis, golf, and basketball. I also enjoy other outdoor recreational activities including hiking, kayaking, and skiing.
Miracle docter - the best for hands!
Friendly knowledgeable
He was lovely and attentive!
Not able to schedule an injection to be done for almost a month. I made two doctors appointments for nothing. The doctors or staff should tell people they won’t be able to procedures for a month before they make appointments.
DR. O'Callaghan was great at getting me in to have a cortisone injection on my thumb. I am from out of state and was in a lot of pain. He was thorough in explaining the procedure and options. He is also very kind.
Knowledgeable, explained diagnosis and treatment
I like how he explained the procedure to be done. Questions how I felt about it. I would recommend him.
The whole process, from office visit to post surgery, was absolutely outstanding. Doc has surrounded himself with a great staff
Great visit
My 94 yr old father fell and broke his humerus and needed to see an orthopedist the next day. This was Fri before Labor Day weekend. I called several orthopedists in northwest Michigan. Most did not even return my calls. Bay Street did and Dr. O'Callaghan squeezed my dad in at end of day, braced the arm and confirmed no surgery needed.
