Growing up in Doylestown, he developed a passion for soccer and basketball, which naturally led him to a career focused on enhancing the quality of life for athletes and active individuals alike.
He earned his undergraduate degree from Penn State before attending Drexel University for medical school. Dr. Mattern completed his residency at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, followed by a sports medicine fellowship with Dr. James Andrews at the Andrews Institute in Gulf Breeze, Florida, where he supported the Auburn University football players.

Dr. Mattern is committed to helping his patients return to peak performance and achieve their personal health goals. What he enjoys most about being back in Bucks County and working with Bucks County Orthopedic Specialists is the collaborative spirit of his fellow physicians, all of whom share a dedication to making a positive impact in their patients’ lives and the community. Dr. Mattern is also proud to serve as the Team Physician for William Tennent High School Football, and is often seen supporting local teams on the sidelines.
Outside of work, Dr. Mattern and his wife are excited to explore the rich offerings of the Philadelphia area and the natural beauty of the Delaware River, local farmlands, beaches, and forests. You might spot them in town with their three children, cheering on the Phillies and Eagles, discovering new restaurants, or searching for the best cup of coffee.
