Waited an hour, paid my $30 copay, was referred to him to explore surgery options. He looked at my MRI said I should wait till my appointment with RUSH on 11/7…that was it.

Dr. Nitin Khanna, M.D., FAAOS, graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelors of Science in Bio-Medical Engineering. He has trained with the most prestigious spine surgeons in the world at RUSH and Washington University in St Louis including Dr. Howard An, Ron Dewald, Frank Phillips, Larry Lenke, Dan Riew, Keith Bridwell.
Dr. Khanna believes in a conservative non-invasive and minimally invasive approach to treating most spinal conditions. His focus is on establishing the diagnosis early in the care of a patient and designing an individualized treatment plan for each patient.
Dr. Khanna is a recognized leader in Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and is an associate editor for SPINE and the International Journal of Spine Surgery. He has participated in the design and development of many minimally invasive surgical techniques, including MAS PLIF, that has led to a dramatic decrease in the discomfort typically associated with spinal procedures.
He is a frequent lecturer for both United States and International Surgeons. He has presented his research on these techniques at international spine meetings and has been a pioneer in moving many spinal procedures to the outpatient setting. Many patients are now sent home hours after their procedure avoiding the long hospital stays and pain historically associated with spine surgery.
He is also an expert in cervical disc replacement and believes strongly in maximizing functional motion after spine surgery. These procedures are routinely performed on an outpatient basis with an earlier return to work and function.
His unique focus on addressing alignment in minimally invasive spine procedures aims to not only decrease the recovery time for patients but also aims to increase the longevity and durability of these procedures. “Our goal is to fix the problem and have it last, too often patients require many spine procedures. We feel that by addressing alignment and utilizing these advanced techniques – we will be able to provide long term benefits for patients suffering from spinal conditions.”
Dr. Khanna’s extensive research has been published in Spine, Journal of Spine, Journal of American College of Surgeons, Journal of Orthopedic Trauma, and American Journal of Orthopedics. He has written Text Book chapters in the Principles and Practice of Spine Surgery. His research has been presented at national and international meetings such as North American Spine Society, American Academy of Orthopedics, Cervical Spine Research Society, Scoliosis Research Society, and Mid America Orthopedic Society.
Dr. Khanna's research has been presented at North American Spine Society, Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery. Over 33 patient care awards including two lifetime achievement awards.
