Dr. Nicholas Tannous, M.D., enjoys being at the forefront of the pain medicine/physical medicine and rehabilitation field, delivering quality care to his patients. “Great results are what continue to drive me, as seeing my patients improve is a necessity for my motivation to continue pushing forward,” he said.
Joining the National Spine and Pain Centers in May 2021, Dr. Tannous brings more than a decade of experience to the practice. His previous professional experience includes treating patients at various pain treatment centers in Missouri, Arizona, Nevada, and Virginia.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in anthropology at the University of Washington and his Doctor of Medicine from Ross University School of Medicine/DeVry University in Florida. After completing an internal medicine internship at the Medical College of Wisconsin, he finished a physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at the University of Texas Southwestern.
“Throughout our rotations, I was exposed to different aspects of physical medicine, including interventional spine and joint management,” he said. Dr. Tannous notes he was drawn to the field of physical medicine because “I could do something quickly and easily to help my patient and, most importantly, without a great deal of cutting and surgery.”
He enjoys doing interventional procedures under fluoroscopic or ultrasound guidance, including kyphoplasty, spinal cord stimulation trials and implants, intrathecal pump implantation, vertiflex spinal spacers, and Aurora ZIP spinal fusion spacers.
Dr. Tannous believes in a systemic and methodical approach to treating patients with a focus on multimodal and holistic methods. Medications are a tool in his treatment plan to help patients.
When putting together treatment regimens, Dr. Tannous maintains that patients should always be included. “When a patient is engaged and participating in their treatment plan with their physician, it keeps them activated in maintaining their mobility and functionality,” he said. “Patients should be inclined to make their own decisions and goals about which direction they would like to take in their treatment. Essentially, I help give them options and direction, and they choose the ultimate path in which they would like to obtain treatment.”
Away from the office, Dr. Tannous spends his free time hiking, swimming, doing yoga, playing video games, and traveling.

I believe this doctor is one of the most caring helpful doctors I've ever had in my life the amount of listening he does and understanding while still juggling a lot of patience and patients is next level. He tries to find ways to help you and thinks about the long-term impact of medications on your health. I cannot recommend him enough for people in pain.
Dr T has been my pain management doctor for over 5 years and I truly feel his gave me my life back and I was able to attend most all my family events which is one of the most important things to me. Over the last couple months my pain is climbing back to when I 1st sought treated. I feel Dr T will figure it out and get me back with my family again. I agree slow and steady with medication and dosing, but until we find the “treatment” & plan the patient isolate & sufferers. I know the insurance companies control healthcare. It’s not fair to be upset with the doctor because insurance companies are pulling all the strings.
He is very nice and he keeps you from being in pain
