Dr. J. Nicholas Rachel completed his undergraduate degree at the University of South Alabama before receiving his medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in Mobile. Following his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Tennessee-Campbell Clinic Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Rachel went on to receive advanced fellowship training in hand and upper extremity surgery.
As a board-certified pediatric and adult hand and upper extremity surgeon, Dr. Rachel’s practice focuses on the surgical and nonsurgical treatment of hand, wrist, and elbow injuries and conditions.
Dr. Rachel is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. When he’s not seeing patients, he enjoys golfing, hunting, and spending time with his family.

Very gentile, knowledgeable, listened to my concerns and we agreed on a shot of cortisone which was also gentle. Oh, and did I mention funny?😄
Dr. Rachel tells the best jokes to ease any fear of injections! Great Doctor.
Conversation and explanation was clear. Suggested several options for treatment while advising what direction he felt i needed to go. Furthermore, he gave me some advice on some other medical situations that I'm dealing with. One of his support staff, Scottie Chappel went out of his way to further clarify any more concerns.
Very attentive
Today was 1st time I saw him. He was very thorough and explained things so that understood what was going on. And I did not sit out in the lobby no more than 5-10minutes tops and once I was in the room they saw me immediately! I was very pleased with how fast I was in and out.
I tied to set this to a 5 star but it will not let me. Dr Rachel is a very important part of this Group. This is my second time to have an appointment with him. He listens to everything that you say. Thanks
