Dr. Nathan Turnbull is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon serving West Volusia County. He has hospital privileges at Florida Hospital DeLand and Florida Hospital Fish Memorial. Dr. Turnbull provides general orthopaedic care, with a special interest in knee and hip replacement.
Dr. Turnbull earned his B.S. in Microbiology and Cell Science at the University of Florida in Gainesville and received his medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He went on to complete his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Orlando Health, a Level 1 trauma center, where he was exposed to complex fractures, joint replacement, and arthroscopic surgery.
This interest in total joint replacement led to his Fellowship with Joint Implant Surgeons, Inc. in Ohio, where he gained subspecialty training in reconstruction of the hip and knee. Dr. Turnbull has experience in direct anterior hip replacement, minimally invasive partial knee replacement, and reconstruction of failed hip and knee replacements. His residency at a Level 1 trauma center has also prepared him to provide complete fracture care.
During his training, Dr. Turnbull published peer-reviewed articles and presented at national orthopaedic meetings on topics that include periprosthetic knee fractures, partial knee replacements, and the treatment of infected knee and hip replacements. In addition, he has co-authored book chapters on the direct anterior hip replacement and partial knee replacements.
Dr. Turnbull and his wife, Elizabeth, were both raised in DeLand, Florida. After being away for 14 years pursuing his dream of becoming an orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Turnbull, Elizabeth, and their son Henry are excited to return to a community that remains full of family and friends.

Dr. Turnbull and his team are extremely competent and caring. He managed my knee replacement in a very professional manner and took as much time as needed to ensure I knew everything I needed to pre- and post-surgery.

Great doctor
Dr. Turnbull as in the hallway when I was called back for my appointment. After a few questions from the associates who took me to my room, and told me the X-ray tech would come get me shortly, Dr. Turnbull escorted me himself to the X-ray lab. He was thorough and explained what he saw may be going on with my hip. I opted for a shot in my hip, and EVERYONE hates needles, including me. He gave me the shot so quickly and painlessly I literally walked out of the clinic in shock and awe. He made me feel very comfortable, which I greatly appreciate! Should anything else go wrong with my hip, he will be the one that I contact first. Thank you.
