Dr. Monica Ertel, M.D., PhD, is a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist and cataract surgeon known for her clinical expertise, academic leadership, and compassionate approach to patient care. She completed her medical and graduate training at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, followed by an ophthalmology residency at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. Dr. Ertel then pursued advanced fellowship training in glaucoma at the University of Colorado.

Dr. Ertel has practiced in the Denver and Boulder communities for over six years and currently served as an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She was also the Residency Program Director for the University of Colorado Department of Ophthalmology, where she is deeply involved in mentoring and training the next generation of ophthalmologists. Her dedication to teaching has been recognized with multiple honors, including a departmental teaching award.
In addition to her academic roles, Dr. Ertel is a respected leader within the ophthalmology community, serving on the Colorado Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and contributing to collaborative case review and clinical education initiatives statewide.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Ertel enjoys skiing, running, and spending time with her husband and two daughters, embracing the active Colorado lifestyle she loves.
