Dr. Michelle Nguyen, M.D. graduated from an accelerated 7-year BS/MD program at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dr. Nguyen went on to complete her internship and residency in internal medicine at Yale University School of Medicine. While at Yale, she participated in the Office of Global Health by volunteering in under-resourced communities. Dr. Nguyen returned to Stanford University School of Medicine to complete her fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology, where her area of research was in esophageal diseases and quality metrics in colonoscopy.
Dr. Nguyen has been in practice for the past fifteen years, first working in Santa Cruz as the Chief of Gastroenterology and then as the Internal Medical Subspecialty Head at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. She has served as a Board Member for the Medical Executive Board at Sutter Maternity and Surgery Center and as Infusion Site Lead for the Palo Alto Medical Foundation in Santa Cruz. She transferred her practice to the Palo Alto Division, where she had her primary inpatient care at Stanford Hospital and Clinics. Dr. Nguyen is a member of the ASGE and AGA.
Dr. Nguyen has been closely involved with the San Mateo Medical Center and Ravenswood Clinic in a consultative role in the LEAP Institute, advising the center on how to provide efficient health care and colonoscopy access to under-served populations. She sees inpatients at Stanford Hospital and Clinics, Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, El Camino Hospital Los Gatos, and Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Nguyen is married to an Emergency Medicine physician and has one daughter. She spends many weekends at water polo games, watching her daughter play. She is an active member of her Buddhist temple and enjoys meditation and yoga.
