Dr. Michael Yang, M.D., is fellowship-trained cataract and glaucoma specialist. He attended UC Irvine where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with the Chancellor’s Award of Distinction and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Dr. Yang went on to complete his Medical Degree at David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. After medical school, Dr. Yang completed his medical internship at White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he cared for an underserved population at the height of the COVID pandemic.

After internship, Dr. Yang returned to UC Irvine to complete his ophthalmology residency where he was chosen to serve as the sole Chief Resident – focusing on improving surgical training and resident wellness. After this, Dr. Yang joined Byers Eye Institute at Stanford University where he was selected to be a Clinical Instructor and underwent specialized training in his Glaucoma Fellowship.
Credentials & Specializations
Dr. Yang is skilled in sutureless cataract surgery and helping patients select the ideal intraocular lenses – including: Monofocal (correcting hyperopia and myopia), Toric (correcting astigmatism), Extended depth of focus (EDOF), Multifocal (correcting presbyopia) and Light Adjustable Lenses (LAL, customizable lenses).
Through his specialized Glaucoma Fellowship training, Dr. Yang is also experienced with multiple options of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and glaucoma lasers to treat glaucoma and possibly decrease the number of glaucoma eye drops needed.
For more advanced glaucoma, Dr. Yang also has a breadth of surgical experience with implanting and managing glaucoma tube shunt devices and trabeculectomy surgeries.
Michael is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Glaucoma Society (AGS).
