I highly recommend Dr. Smitherman to anyone seeking a rheumatologist who truly listens, validates, and works with you to find answers. He is an out-of-the-box thinker, and from my very first visit I felt heard and encouraged after years of being told I was “too young” to hurt or that “everyone gets tired.”
I’ve struggled with debilitating fatigue, joint and muscle pain, and migraines that have impacted my daily life and even caused job loss.
He validated my illness instead of dismissing it, and that has made all the difference. As someone who is still athletic and fairly young, I deeply appreciate his compassion and innovative approach.
It has changed my life when I felt like I would never improve to be encouraged and see improvement due to the treatment.

Was not pleased with him. He hardly made eye contact and did not have great bedside manner. He did not seem like he cared. Will not be returning.
