Michael S. Murphy, M.D.

Dr. Michael S. Murphy, M.D., is board certified in orthopedic surgery and hand surgery. Dr. Murphy voluntarily re-certified his credentials. He earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester in New York. He completed a general surgical internship, research fellowship in surgery, general surgical residency, and orthopedic surgical residency (as chief resident), at the New York City University Medical Center. Dr. Murphy performed a hand surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Dr. Murphy holds appointments as Assistant Program Director of Hand Fellowships at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital and assistant professor, Department of Orthopedics at Johns Hopkins Medical School in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Murphy is the recipient of several graduate medical education awards. He serves on several committees, including:

He is a member of the Maryland Orthopaedic Society and American Society for Surgery of the Hand. Dr. Murphy is the author of orthopedic book chapters, and his numerous research studies are published in peer-reviewed medical journals. He is a sought-after invited national presenter.

Dr. Murphy spearheads of a team of volunteer medical professionals to the Dominican Republic twice a year. There, he provides surgery and orthopedic care for patients with a variety of injuries, ranging from burns to violence-related injuries.
