Originally from Canada, Dr. Nguyen completed a master’s degree in epidemiology, statistics, and hyperbaric medicine before earning his medical degree from the Saba University School of Medicine in Saba, Netherlands Antilles. He completed his residency at Northeast Iowa Family Medicine Residency in Waterloo, Iowa. During his time in Northeast Iowa, he worked as an emergency physician in Waverly, Boone, Independence, and several other small-town communities. From his work in the ER, Dr. Nguyen saw there was a need for a more integrated approach of musculoskeletal injuries and decided to further his training. He completed a sports medicine fellowship at Mount Sinai-Atlantic Health in Morristown, New Jersey, where he had the opportunity to care for athletes at all levels and ages including high school, NCAA, and professional sports teams, such as the New York Jets.
Dr. Nguyen pioneered the startup of the Orthopaedic Urgent Care at CNOS in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota in 2013, working on staff there for 7 years (including 5 years as the Orthopaedic Urgent Care Director, a role he took over in 2015.) He joined the team at Capital Orthopaedics in August of 2020, where he helped establish and continues to direct the Orthopaedic Walk-in Clinic in Clive, as well as assisting with the practice’s duties as team physicians for the Iowa Wild and various high schools in the metro.

Very personable, knew what he was talking about and explained the options so we could understand them.
