Dr. Michael Nguyen is a highly regarded expert in sports injuries and arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, knee, and hip. He also specializes in advanced shoulder reconstruction including minimally invasive rotator cuff repairs, instability repairs, and shoulder replacement.
Born and raised in North Texas, Dr. Nguyen was very active in soccer and track. In high school, he played for the nationally-ranked Dallas Texans soccer club and participated in the U.S. Soccer Olympic Development Program. Dr. Nguyen graduated with the highest honors from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He then attended medical school at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio where he graduated near the top of his class. His orthopedic surgery training was performed at The University of California, Irvine Medical Center where he won multiple national and international awards for his patient care as well as his research. From there, he was accepted to the prestigious Stanford Medical Center for subspecialty fellowship training in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, knee, and hip. During his time at Stanford, Dr. Nguyen participated as one of the team physicians for the San Francisco 49ers, as well as multiple different Stanford sports teams including football, basketball, soccer, and volleyball. He has extensive experience taking care of athletes at all levels.
Dr. Nguyen is licensed in the state of Texas and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons; the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine; the Arthroscopy Association of North America; and the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, and Orthopedic Sports Medicine. He also participates as an instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America, where he teaches other orthopedic surgeons from around the world looking to perfect their surgical skills.
In his free time, Dr. Nguyen enjoys spending time with his wife and three boys, playing soccer, running, CrossFit, traveling, and being outdoors. He serves as the team physician for Birdville High School, Denton Guyer High School, Boswell High School, and LD Bell High School. He covers multiple athletic events and covers the Friday Night Injury Clinic at Texas Orthopedic Specialists where injured athletes can be evaluated after a game during football season to help expedite treatment and return to play.

Dr. Nguyen is one of the best orthopedic specialists we’ve experienced. From the moment we walked in, he truly listened to my daughter, not just to me as her parent, but to her. He took the time to understand her injury, how she was feeling, and what her specific needs were. That meant so much. His bedside manner was exceptional. He was patient, kind, and never rushed us. Every question we had was answered thoroughly and in a way that made sense. He explained her diagnosis clearly and walked us step-by-step through what to expect moving forward. He provided a clear plan for physical therapy, explained the goals of treatment for her diagnosis, and made sure we felt confident about her recovery process. We both left the appointment feeling informed, reassured, and genuinely cared for. Grateful for a physician who combines expertise with compassion. I would highly recommend Dr. Nguyen to any family needing orthopedic care.
Knowledgeable & pleasant. Explained in detail what would be involved in my particular shoulder surgery. He also explained the post-op physical training I would have to endure. If I elect to have surgery performed, I will definitely have Dr. Nguyen performed it.

Dr. Nguyen was very patient with me and his PA. He listened to me and explained what I asked about. He gave me a peace of mind that I haven’t had in some months with my shoulder and the pain I am living with. I’m looking forward to working with him and his PA along with physical therapy to strengthen my shoulder and reduce the pain. He saw and understood my frustration and was so willing to take his time with me.
Dr. N was great. He explained so my 14 yr old could understand. We felt heard and unrushed. I def recommend.
