Dr. Michael Newton

Dr. Michael Newton, M.D., graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania. His medical training at the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston was followed by an ophthalmology residency at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and a fellowship in corneal surgery and external eye disease in Los Angeles. In mid-career, Dr. Newton earned the Liberal Studies Masters Degree in Medical Ethics at the City University of New York, after which he served on the Mount Sinai Hospital Medical Ethics Committee. [His contributions to the medical ethics literature include the book, Without Your Consent: The Hijacking of American Health Care.]

Other service positions include multiple terms on the Medical Advisory Board of the Eye Bank for Sight Restoration and on the Board of the New York State Ophthalmologic Society.

Dr. Newton is Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital and has admitting privileges at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He has been listed in New York Magazine Best Doctors issues, New York Super Doctors, and annually in the Castle-Connolly guide, New York’s Top Doctors.

Dr. Newton offers routine eye exams and comprehensive eye care, including the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. His areas of special interest include eye infections, dry eye, contact lens complications, recurrent erosions, herpetic eye disease, inflammatory and allergic issues, and ocular problems related to general medical conditions.

Dr. Newton and his wife live in Westchester. They have two adult children.
