Dr. Michael Nejat received his Medical Degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1996. At his graduation, Dr. Nejat was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society. This honor is only bestowed to the top medical graduates.
Dr. Nejat’s ophthalmology training commenced at the prestigious Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, ranked at the time as the #1 ophthalmology training program in New York by US News & World Report. He was elected by his peers to serve as Chief Resident during his final year of residency. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Nejat received additional training at the world-renowned John’s Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute. At Wilmer, he specialized in laser vision correction (LASIK and PRK), corneal transplantation and complicated cataract surgery. Dr. Nejat is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology since 2000. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He is also a member of the New York State and Richmond County Ophthalmological Society.
Dr. Nejat is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the State University of New York (SUNY Downstate). He has also served as a clinical instructor and the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital and New York University. He trains future ophthalmologists in state of the art corneal, cataract and refractive surgery and has authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and chapters in ophthalmology textbooks.
Dr. Nejat has practiced ophthalmology at Island Eye Surgery Specialists since 2000. He specializes in PRK, LASIK, corneal transplantation, complicated and laser-assisted cataract surgery. He has performed over 10,000 vision correction procedures, including implanting the state of the art Restore, Technis Multifocal, Symfony and Symfony Toric Lenses. Along with Dr. David Gerstenfeld, with two high-tech locations and top-notch operating rooms and laser suites, he continues to provide the Staten Island community with outstanding skill, quality, integrity, and compassion.
