Dr. Michael Lewis, M.D. is a top cataract and eyelid surgeon and has been recognized as a top doctor by Castle Connolly. He began his medical training at the renowned St. Louis University School of Medicine. Dr. Lewis completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Indiana University, where he was involved in numerous eye health research efforts. These efforts led to a practice focused on cataract surgery and oculoplastic surgery. Dr. Lewis’s residency allowed him to develop skill and experience as an eyelid surgeon in Blepharoplasty, the repair of droopy eyelids and bags under the eyes and related problems associated with aging.
In addition to being a highly skilled eyelid surgeon, Dr. Lewis has also developed excellent cataract surgery skills. With regard to his cataract patients, Dr. Lewis performs the SmartLens® procedure in an effort to free his cataract patients from their dependence on eyeglasses. He uses a variety of intraocular lenses and the latest technology to ensure patients have their best possible vision.

I came from a rather big family with 5 of us in total. I’m the oldest of 2 sisters and 2 brothers and the only one that went into medicine in the footsteps of my Great Grandfather. I am married to my wife Jennifer and have two awesome little girls that keep me busy in my free time.
Fun Facts
I am nearly 100% Scottish background. Although my last name is Lewis my family is most direct in lineage to the MacLeod clan. As a young boy my Grandfather would take me to Scottish games and yes, I did have a kilt!
In addition to being a cataract and eyelid surgeon, I’m a bit of a technology geek. I build my own computers and have them overclocked and modified way beyond any functional reason other than the ability to say I did so. If there is new technology out there, i’m always interested.
I’m a fairly accomplished handyman! I love to work with my hands. I’ve designed and built some of the furniture in my home. I do my own auto and home repair. Everything from replacing an alternator to tile, plumbing, and wiring. For good or for worse, I would rather fix or make something myself than hire someone to do it for me.
Favorite Things
I love sailing and although I am rather busy with work, I try to accomplish as much sailing as I can muster. I have sailed in the Pacific in 30 foot waves and river piloted down the Columbia river and across the infamous Columbia river bar. One of the most dangerous stretches of water in the world!
I enjoy tropical gardening and since moving to Florida now get excited about finding a rare varigated Monstera deliciosa or a new Hawaiian Heliconia. My yard looks like it came from Jurassic Park!
My favorite food is crab.

Dr Lewis gave me the amazing gift of my sight back, he and his staff made it such an easy and calm process. My 7yr old granddaughter is almost as excited and greatful as I am because I can once again pick her up from school or take her to a beautiful park and see her smiling face for the first time in MONTHS as she plays!! I feel very blessed to have Dr Lewis as my surgeon .
I was concerned about the pain in my left eye , he told me I just needed to increase my eye drops. Thanks

Dr. Lewis is a great eye surgeon. He’s professional, thorough, friendly and takes his time with his patients. He’s very knowledgeable and explains problems and procedures in terms that the average person can understand.
