Thank you for entrusting me to provide your specialized orthopaedic care. I would like to share some information about myself, my experience in medicine, and my approach to patient care.
I grew up close by in Geneva, Illinois, and attended high school at Marmion Academy in Aurora, IL. During my time there I was named a National Merit Scholar, participated in the JROTC program, and was selected to be a commander on their nationally ranked drill team. I continued my education at the University of Iowa where I obtained an Honors Bachelor of Science degree in Comprehensive Biology, with a minor in Chemistry. I obtained my Doctor of Medicine degree from Chicago Medical School, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. My orthopaedic training began at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, where I received multiple awards for highest in-training examination score and most outstanding resident. My specialized training culminated at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, where I completed a fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Surgery.
During my early years of medical training, I quickly realized that I was destined to become a surgeon. I excelled during surgical rotations and felt a certain calmness in the operating room. It was fulfilling to use my hands and technical skills to treat and improve the lives of patients. My grandfather may have been the biggest influence on my decision to become a focused hip and knee surgeon. He spent many years in military service, where he sustained multiple injuries to his back and hips that ultimately left him with intractable pain and impaired mobility. Everything changed when he eventually had both of his hips replaced. After the surgeries, he was revitalized and was able to lead a happier, healthier, more active lifestyle. My grandfather’s experience allowed me to witness firsthand the life-changing impact an adult reconstructive surgeon could make by decreasing pain, improving function, and improving quality of life.
My practice at OrthoIllinois focuses on hip and knee replacement, including partial, total, and complex revision hip and knee surgery. I have a special interest in outpatient surgery, minimally invasive surgical techniques, and rapid recovery protocols that improve my patient’s outcomes and surgical experience. I am dedicated to life-long learning and will stay current with the most recent evidence-based medical and surgical practices to make sure that I offer proven and up-to-date treatments.
Getting to know you as my patient and tailoring an individualized treatment plan that best accomplishes your goals are important aspects of my care. You can expect to be treated as a member of my own family. I will present honest and objective information, review all treatment options, and give my recommendations. Ultimately, I will encourage you to make the final decision on the treatment course with which you are most comfortable.
When I am not practicing medicine I enjoy spending time with my wife and two daughters, hiking, playing golf, and learning songs on the guitar.
My goal is to get you back to your healthy, active, and fulfilling lifestyle as quickly and as safely as possible. I look forward to meeting you and working with you to reduce your pain and improve your daily function.
Sincerely,
Michael Harvey, MD

Treatment for my knee injury was spot on. I feel great now!
Great doctor and staff. He listens and delivers.
Hi Doctor Harvey. It’s a very excellent Doctor. Super good doctor. He fixed my knee. He put me a new knee and he listened when I explained to him and he is very kind. I love him. I will go back to him. I will recommend him. It’s a very very good Doctor
Was so impressed with his demeanor and care ge shows. Am very grateful to have used him to do my hip replacement. Excellent in all areas.
Dr. Harvey was warm, cordial and pleasant. I felt comfortable with him right away. We discussed a few options, some of which would need to be performed by a different doctor. I respect that. He is extremely knowledgeable and has successfully treated patients far older than I am (in my mid-70s). I’d definitely recommend Dr. Harvey!
Excellent and great professionalism ! He knew the bottom of my issue and took care of it. Literally since it was my hip! lol
Explained everything I needed to know perfectly and the surgery went well.
Dr. Harvey very compassionately and clearly explained that my bone on bone arthritis in my right knee will require a knee replacement, as other options are no longer effective. I am grateful that he answered all my questions and put my mind at ease about this next step, a blessing to me.
Dr. Harvey is not only an amazing surgeon but a very warm human being in which I greatly appreciate him for hearing me out when asking about certain things that are important to me. Dr. Harvey is the greatest! And his teams they run together like a fine tune oil machine :)
He is the best orthopedic doctor!
