Michael F. Blum, M.D., completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1985. He graduated medical school at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham in 1989 and completed an Orthopaedic Surgery Residency in 1995. Dr. Blum began his orthopaedic practice in Alexander City, Alabama, and relocated to Birmingham to become one of the founding owners of Southlake Orthopaedics Sports Medicine and Spine Center. Dr. Blum’s practice has a special emphasis on sports medicine and joint replacement/reconstruction.
The front office staff were great however Dr. Blum was not. Basically he said I needed hip replacement, didn’t say there were other options, didn’t allow for me to ask questions. My visit seemed to be an inconvenience. Here are some anti inflammatory, call me when you’re ready to have surgery. Not a good experience at all.

Quickly diagnosed condition. Showed concern and provided options for pain & stiffness.
Seems to be very knowledgeable. Dr. Blum listens and doesn’t rush you, very interested about getting to the bottom of your issue, not just treating the symptoms.
I like that he listened to my concerns about invasive procedures like surgery and is taking the approach I wanted; let's try all the things that might help my problem and only go further if absolutely necessary.
Very friendly, helpful and efficient office and staff. Dr Blum was great, thorough and helpful. Liked being able to have everything done there. Xray technician was great too.
